A Very Exciting Spring Break

My spring break is careening toward an end, and it has been a RUSH. Let me recount it for you...

On Monday, I went to the eye doctor and learned that my prescription has not changed for the umpteenth year in a row! Yay! I also bought glasses for a steal and got a really awesome pan.

On Tuesday, I went to the dentist and found out that I don't know how to brush my teeth! So the hygienist taught me all over again, after poking and prodding away all the plaque. FUN! I also got the bonding fixed on my front tooth. Eventually I'll get a porcelain veneer, but since that's expensive, I'm holding off.

On Wednesday, we had crab legs for dinner. Delish!

On Thursday, I drove back to Columbus and worked!

Okay, so really, not exciting at all. But that's okay, I'll take my lame spring breaks over booze filled spring breaks any day! The rest of the weekend I'm working, including what promises to be a VERY VERY busy Easter Sunday Brunch Buffet. I'm just hoping to make a lot of money!

One More Down...

One more quarter down (that would make...14 quarters of classes for me), and one more to go till graduation. I made it through with excellent grades even though this quarter was mentally exhausting. I think I'm most proud of my biochemistry grade--I got a 98/100 on the final! I studied pretty hard for that, so I really earned that grade. I thought for sure it'd be a lot lower because there was one topic I missed in class and couldn't really understand, but I guess I managed to bs the question on the test.

So far my Christmas break has consisted of working and being lazy, a good combination. I'm through with work until after the new year, which is both happy and sad. Today my boyfriend and I went to an exhibit of William Wegman's art, which was pretty cool. I knew him from the pictures of Weimaraners, but I didn't know of his other art. Very quirky art! It was cool to see, and it was free. Cultural exposure for free is a good deal! I bought a poster (above) of a picture taken especially for Ohio State, largely because of the "special" quality of it. My boyfriend bought a frame for it, so now it's like a real picture hung above my bed. It matches the picture "theme" of my room as my brother pointed out--all the pictures hung on my walls have black frames. It really makes my room feel like home, instead just a place to stay.

Tomorrow I'm heading to graduation for my roommate, then heading home for a week and a half. Then it's off to Florida!

Turning a corner?

I was supposed to have a second job interview today for Max & Erma's, but last night I got a phone call telling me that it would be an orientation...so I have a job! I filled out the loads of paperwork today, and I start training on Thursday. I'm excited to be a part of this company and it seems like the two managers I met are good people. My biggest concern is getting "allowed" time off for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but hopefully that won't be a big deal. It'll be good to have some cash flow again! And I'll be honest, I am looking forward to being a server in a "better" restaurant. The biggest downside besides getting busier is losing date night with my boyfriend. But we're adaptable--lunch dates are always nice!

Going home this weekend for a little R&R with kitties. And mommy. I just need a little time away, you know?

Listy Update

--I'm done with my 4th year at OSU. Of course, I didn't graduate, but I'm not feeling too bad about that since I have a plan for my future. So far 3 of my grades are in--I'm pretty excited about my A in Senior Design. I'm waiting for my history grade which I'm expecting will be a B+/A-.

--I went to my brother's graduation, in the freezing cold. It was weather suited for a football game. Ick.

--I'm 22. Pretty uneventful on that front.

--My bike is going to be all fixed up and ready for me to take it to Columbus. That's exciting because just riding it up the street and back made me realize that bike riding is fun!

--My mom lost her job due to...a variety of reasons, none to do with her worth or success as a teacher. Her school district is in a "fiscal emergency" wherein having tenure meant nothing. And a teachers' contract was passed through on very shady terms that allowed for the elimination of a mass number of teachers. Delightful. I'm trying to convince her to move to Columbus.

--Earwigs are my least favorite bugs. I've had close encounters with two since I've been home and I hate it!

--I realized that I'm truly a Columbus kid now. I wanted to grab something to eat after graduation on Tuesday (I did a lot of driving to make it in time due to Monday's cancellation) and everything I wanted doesn't exist in Elyria. I opted for Chinese food.

--I'm home until June 16th at which point I go back to Columbus and start summer classes. Yay.

An Update to Show That I'm Alive

This week has been a little stressful for me, I had an anatomy exam on Monday (94%), a history quiz on Tuesday, my senior design presentation on Wednesday, and a presentation for my MSE class on Thursday. So today I'm taking a bit of a breather, since this weekend I have to work on my 10-15 page senior design project report (due May 21) and a 2-4 page "letter home" based on a book we read in history. Very soon, I'll be able to breathe a lot more easily. In fact hopefully I'll be finished with my senior project report by next Friday so that I can relax next weekend. I only have 2 finals at the end of the quarter, so that's excellent.

Other events coming up include a trip to "Grandmawl's Farm" for Memorial Day (the boyfriend's grandma has a farm in KY that is the place for family gatherings), my 22nd birthday (sheesh I'm finally getting old! lol!), and my brother's high school graduation. My birthday and his graduation are both on June 4, so since I'm going home for graduation, I'll actually be HOME for my birthday for the first time since high school. I think that's neat! Granted, I'll be home for less than 24 hours, but I want to support my little brother. I just hope I can make it home for my sister's graduation in 2 years...I don't want her to feel that I like my brother more.

Tonight I'm making a dinner that's totally inappropriate for hot weather: roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans. But I'm craving my favorite meal, so there you have it. And yes, I'm aware you can buy the chickens that are already roasted, but that takes most of the satisfaction out of making a meal.

I'm pretty boring right now. I'll post more excitingly soon, perhaps!

Colder than a witch's teat...

OMG. I'm so cold. I'm so annoyed because other than climbing into bed with a billion covers, I can't get warm. I'm pretty sure it's hovering around 60-65 in here. At least I was home all weekend, where we have heat. Though, I could've done without the White Easter.

While I was home, my sister made her meal for her "Creative Cuisine" class. I suggested she try a meal from India (they have to choose a country). Despite never having eaten Indian food, she did a pretty good job. Granted she had several sous chefs, but she found the recipes and made her grocery list. And helping her out with the meal, gave me a whole new appreciation for the Indian food that I love to eat--it's truly laborious! We had vegetable pakora (fritters), garlic naan (bread), chicken curry with basmati rice, and kheer (rice pudding). She hit a home run with 3 of the dishes--the curry wasn't as good as we wished it would have been.

All in all, a good weekend. Tonight is dinner and studying for my anatomy exam tomorrow. I should do fine on it!

And the results are in

This was my best quarter so far! 5 As and 1 stinky B+ (in senior project, of course). A grand total quarter GPA of 3.95 and a cumulative GPA of 3.70. I'm very happy because while I enjoyed my classes, it was a tough quarter. I'm not even that upset by the B+, mostly because I expected it.

In other news, I'm bored at home. Today I bought crayons so that I can sit around and color. Last night I watched 6 episodes of Bones that my sister bought on DVD. At least there's TV on tonight, but I'll still probably watch a few episodes of Bones.
