Chipotle

It never fails. Chipotle (the Mexican Grill, not the smoked jalapeños in adobo sauce) enters my mind and I am compelled to go get a burrito. It's just so danged good! My ideal burrito is rice, pinto beans, black beans, chicken, mild salsa (pico de gallo), corn salsa, lettuce, cheese, and sour cream.

So...what food cravings are you powerless to resist?

And speaking of chipotle (the jalapeño), I once made a very very delicious chipotle glaze that went over chicken breasts. It was like a barbecue sauce with spice. I should make that again sometime. Come September my culinary prowess will exert itself more strongly as I will have a REAL kitchen at my disposal. September 16th just can't get here soon enough!

I think perhaps thinking about food takes up too much of my time. Crap. And I don't even watch Food Network that much anymore!

Let me first say that I am not a fan of burritos, and hence not a fan of Chipotle. I'm more of a quesadilla guy, and hence more of a Qdoba, Baja Fresh, or basically any fast-food Mexican restaurant that's not Chipotle (because they all serve quesadillas).

As far as cravings go, I get immense cravings for the foods I eat the most (grilled cheese from down the street, sesame chicken from the great Asian place in town, chicken tikka masala from any of the Indian places in town, dim sum (damn, I haven't had that in ages), random Italian food, and pulled pork sandwiches).

I've also fallen in love with cheesecake. Plain cheesecake. Plain, but good, cheesecake. And I try it at every restaurant that has it, at least once, hoping to find the best. So far, the winner is Outback. It's only four bucks, it's fairly big, it's the perfect consistency, and it comes with a searing hot fudge sauce that complements it perfectly. It's much better than its more expensive counterparts at other restaurants, and I try to save room for it as often as I can at Outback.

I've been to Qdoba once, and I liked that they had a bigger selection than Chipotle. I seem to remember that they had a really good soup? I like quesadillas, but mostly in the "microwave with cheddar cheese at home" way :-) Chipotle does have quesadillas on their "secret" kids menu (it's not really a huge secret), but I'm not sure how good they are. At TGI Friday's once I had really good quesadillas that were Parmesan-Crusted Sicilian quesadillas. Yum.

I have days where I crave Indian food! Last week I had it twice, so I'm probably set for awhile...or not! I think my cravings are for the food I like the most and thus they become the foods I eat the most!

I have always loved plain cheesecake. It's perhaps my favorite way to go with cheesecake! I don't often try it at restaurants, but then I don't often get dessert out. Basically, I think I need a springform pan so I can make my own and experiment that way! I'll try Outback's cheesecake sometime!

Yeah, I really need to try and make my own cheesecake sometime. And try some quesadillas from Chipotle (if they let me order from the kids' menu).

And as far as Indian food goes, there have been times when I've had it twice in one day or five days in a row! It helps that there's at least seven (very different) Indian restaurants within walking distance.

When the Urge comes upon me, I am powerless to resist:

--potato chips

That's pretty much it. Since I have to cook for a family, I am not usually able to just indulge a last-moment whim. But, I am totally OFF the Cheetos. Completely.

induced homomorphism--that's awesome that you have 7 within walking distance! There are 2 for me, and we don't like the one and the other is supposedly really expensive!

nance--off the Cheetos?! that's crazy! And I can totally understand not being able to indulge whims with a family to feed. Perhaps when the boys are finally out of the house you and Rick can indulge in food whims again!
