The Pink Shirt

Several summers ago, while I a research intern, I found out I needed something "business casual" to wear to a presentation. I had pants (fabulous black pin stripe pants that fit really well!) but no shirt (ordinarily I would have worn a sweater, but given that it was August, I decided that was out. So last minute I ran to Target and bought a fuchsia (I just learned to spell that word correctly) button up cotton shirt. It was business casual enough, I figured. I tried it on, it seemed fine and I bought it.

Then when I wore it, it felt like it was cut funny. It didn't quite hit right on my upper torso. I wore it to the presentation figuring I just wasted money on a shirt I'd wear once.

And to this day, of all the "dressy button up shirts" I own, I wear it the most. And it's still not that comfortable.

You would have gotten a pretty goofy picture of me modeling the shirt, but alas, Blogger hates me right now, and it won't upload the picture.

In other news, I found $5 in my dress pants. Cha-ching!

Last semester my friend's girlfriend took me shopping (both because I needed new clothes that fit me and also because I needed some nicer clothes), and I bought this grey sweater from Banana Republic and a white button-down dress shirt from Macy's which went together really well (in the infinite wisdom of my friends). I really fell in love with them because, well, the sweater is a size small (really it's the only small thing I fit into) and it's also pretty cozy.

The problem? I get too hot wearing something like that when it's more than forty degrees outside. So I really don't wear it that often. Still, I've finally gotten to the point where I can really enjoy certain pieces of clothing and feel sexy in them. Hopefully I can find some nice, sexy summer wear.

I have a darling woolish skirt that my momma bought me last Christmas...the problem is that I don't wear skirts when it's cold and it's totally unseasonable for any other season.

Woo, sexy summer wear!

Nance-I keep it around because it's hard for me to find long sleeve blouses that I like and that fit. I'm a weird gangly thing! I don't want to spend a lot of money on "tailored" shirts till I have to. And in all honesty, it doesn't look bad, it just doesn't feel right.
